The other purpose of the 6th March was to brief members and answer their questions on the background to the village hall project: how we had got to where we are now and what next.

The Option on Marelands Field

The most important issue was the option that been bought for £10,000 when the Parish Council was the Sole Trustee of the original village hall charity, and which was due  to expire on 21st April this year. This was an opportunity for the Trustees to gauge the views of the members who were present. A non-binding show of hands by members attending was unanimous that the option should be exercised, and the site purchased.

Exercising the option

The trustees discussed the matter and decided to proceed to buy the land.  At the time of writing, the option has been exercised, the necessary legal and insurance arrangements have been put in place, the further deposit paid and the purchase will be finalised on 13th May. Marelands Field will then become an asset of the charity.

Getting on with the business of Farringdon Village Hall

Again, at the time of writing, there is still no SDNP/EHDC decision on the  planning application, after a further second consultation period ended on 2nd Nov. Comments can still be submitted for posting on the site.  We are now in the hands of the planning authority, but once the land is purchased, we can start to consider what could  be realistic options for the site.
